Canadians have too much geography and we celebrate difference. We are diffident, sometimes to the extreme.  We write novels about the ordinariness of life.    My subjects:  Drumheller's mustard fields, Hornby Island's arbutus trees, the pink granite of Muskoka, the dense forests of northern Ontario, the fog- encrusted pines of Grand Manan.
